Introduction
"The design opportunity is to create a personal mobility device for elderly adults. The device should be able to transport elderly adults between points of interest in their neighborhood/community. The device should also provide a sense of excitement and spontaneous moments for the elderly adult. The stakeholders include the elderly adults, caretakers, family/friends of the user, and our sponsor, GM. In addition to the elderly adults, the device should also cater to the needs of caretakers within residential homes and family or friends that may interact with the vehicle while the user is operating it."
Objective
Personal mobility devices should enables elderly adults to travel between their points of interest within a two mile radius.

Research

Stakeholder Analysis
Due to the high influence from elderly adults, the user, and GM, the sponsor, a most of the design will be oriented towards those two stakeholders. Caregivers and family members have less of an impact and partially overlap with the user needs. This allows specific aspects of the design to be ranked by importance.
Competitors Landscape
For this analysis we used cost and ease of use as our two variables. we discovered a design opportunity within the $400-$800 cost range for our product.

User Want to be Noticed
Safety, collapsibility, ingress, egress, comfort, and transportability were very important to the users but one of the most important insights was that the users wanted to be noticed. After doing a brand analysis we discover the Cadillac CT6 is the brand from General Motors that wants to be noticed.

Ideation
Started ideation phase focusing on ergonomics, safety, trasportation, ingress, and egress. Through ideation and research we came to the understanding that seating position was the most secured. We also discover that by having a swivel seat we could solve the problem of ingress and egress.

Design Features

Swivel Mechanism allows user to ingress and egress in a safe manner. The width of the armrests adjusts for different users.

Front handle adjusts and locks at three different angles to allow users to transport device and ingress and egress without harm.

Front handle telescopes and locks in three different places.

Two Hub motors in RWD configuration being controled by a joystick on armrest. Battery is located beneath the frame for ease of access.
